Reimbursements for tissue donation
Read here about the reimbursements available for funeral homes and mortuaries.
No costs for next of kin
The additional costs incurred by funeral homes and mortuaries during a tissue donation procedure are covered by the NTS. Next of kin of a donor should never receive a bill for these additional costs related to tissue donation.
Reimbursements for funeral homes and mortuaries
- Transport of the deceased donor to and from a suitable retrieval location if this is necessary for the donation. Regular transport from a hospital to an external mortuary or funeral home, as occurs with all deceased persons, even if no donation takes place, is not reimbursed by the NTS.
- For tissue donation, the NTS pays for the use of refrigeration for the first 24 hours after the time of death.
- There are also reimbursements for making facilities available, such as space and an autopsy table.
