Living donation

In the Netherlands, living donation of a kidney or part of the liver is possible. Are you thinking about doing this yourself? Read more about it here.

What can I expect?

Donating an organ while alive is a valuable gesture. It can give someone dear to you - or even a stranger - a new chance at life. But it is also something you need to think about carefully. You will find answers to many questions here.

Living kidney donation

Most people have two healthy kidneys, while you only need one to live well. By donating one kidney, you give a kidney patient the chance for better health and more freedom. Discover what is involved if you are considering this.

Cross-over kidney donation

Do you want to donate a kidney to a loved one, but your kidney is not a good match? Then you can participate in the cross-over program. In this program, two or more pairs (donor and recipient) swap donors. You can also donate a kidney anonymously within this program. This way, more patients receive a suitable kidney.

Living liver donation

It is also possible to donate part of your liver to someone with a serious liver disease. Your liver will grow back, while with your donation you can save someone else's life. Read what this entails and how the process works.

Reimbursements

Donation often involves costs, such as travel, childcare, or lost income. It is good to know that most costs are reimbursed. We explain how this is arranged.
