Training module for organ donation retrieval surgery
For prospective retrieval surgeons, there is a training program in organ donation retrieval surgery. It consists of 3 parts.
For whom
The training is for prospective abdominal organ retrieval surgeons.
Goal
With this training, participants obtain the retrieval surgery certificate. This is a prerequisite for performing abdominal organ donor surgeries in the Netherlands.
Content
The training consists of 3 elements:
1. E-learnings
2. Training on the job
Participants perform at least these surgeries under supervision:
- 10 kidney surgeries
- 10 liver surgeries
- 6 pancreas surgeries
In the Vrest portfolio system, surgeons in training to become retrieval surgeons register their procedures and assessments (OSATS). Afterwards, the supervisors approve these.
3. International Donor Surgery & Organ Perfusion Masterclass
Follow the masterclass to learn the standardized surgical techniques.
Accreditation
The training module for Retrieval Surgery in organ donation has been accredited with 24 points by the Dutch Society for Surgery (NVvH).
