Physician conducts donation conversation with family

Visual aid for organ and tissue donation

The NTS has developed a visual aid for organ and tissue donation. This helps families during and after the donation procedure.

Help with explaining donation

During a donation procedure, a lot is expected of the patient's family. In an emotional period, a great deal of information is provided and many things need to be arranged. Surviving relatives indicate that they remember little of these conversations afterwards.

That is why the NTS, in collaboration with intensivists, organ donation coordinators (ODCs), and surviving relatives, has developed a visual aid for organ and tissue donation. This visual aid supports the family during and after the donation procedure and provides the physician/ODC with guidance during the conversation.

Tear-off pad for physician and ODC

The visual aid has a front and a back. The physician uses the front to support the donation conversation. The ODC uses the back. The visual aid is printed on A4 tear-off pads on thick paper. The cover sheet of the tear-off pad contains an explanation and brief instructions on how to use the visual aid.

Using the visual aid at work?

The tear-off pads were sent to all ODCs and all ICUs in September 2025.
