Project
Efficient collaboration through new heart valve application
All processes regarding heart valve donation and allocation have been renewed. Together with our chain partners, we developed a new, efficient application that supports the entire process.

Together with our chain partners, we developed a new, efficient application that supports the entire process.
The previous application for heart valve allocation (NTS-ENIS) was no longer sufficient. The work process was fragmented and partially manual. For example, doctors entered their requests online, but allocation staff still had to manually transcribe the data. This was time-consuming and increased the risk of errors.
Goal: efficient collaboration
All processes have been redesigned with the starting point: efficient collaboration. The new application now supports the processes surrounding tissue screening, allocation, handling of offers, and registration on the waiting list.
What does the new application offer?
- Less manual work
- More overview
- More reliable data exchange
- Better communication about process steps
This saves time for all users and improves data quality. Together, we are making data more accessible and more usable.
What do you see in the heart valve dashboard?
The data we collect has been processed into an interactive heart valve dashboard on the member site. Version 1 will be online from mid-August 2025. We will continue to develop it based on user requests. Transplantation centers and the Heart Valve Bank will soon have access via this dashboard to:
- the heart valve inventory
- waiting list dynamics
- the patient population
- transplantation trends
Collaboration
The development took place in close collaboration with chain partners:
- NTS allocation department
- ETB-BISLIFE Heart Valve Bank
- Transplant centers
Approach
We opted for a phased approach. In each phase, a completed component was delivered and immediately put live. This allowed users to experience what worked right away, and we could make quick adjustments where necessary. This step-by-step implementation ensured that everyone could gradually get used to the new application.
What's next?
The application has been actively used since May 2024. User experiences are very positive. There are always remaining wishes. We cannot address them all immediately, but we keep careful track of them and include them in the further development of the application.
