Reporting Office for Organ Transplant Travel Movements to launch on July 1, 2026
26 juni 2026
Effective July 1, 2026, the Reporting Office for Organ Transplant Travel Movements will launch at the Dutch Transplantation Foundation (NTS). With the introduction of the updated Body Material Safety and Quality Act (Wvkl), doctors and other involved healthcare providers are now required to report when a patient has traveled abroad for an organ transplant.
The reporting office collects data on these travel movements to gain better insight into transplants outside the Netherlands. This information is essential for analyzing signals of potential illegal transplants and for further strengthening national and international policy against organ trafficking.
European cooperation
The data collected through the reporting office is analyzed and shared with the Council of Europe in an international registry. By combining data from multiple countries, a better understanding of international travel patterns regarding organ transplants is achieved. This contributes to detecting high-risk practices and enhancing the safety of patients and donors.
Support and information
To support healthcare professionals with the new procedure, the NTS is organizing, among other things, a webinar on organ trafficking and the reporting office. In addition, comprehensive information is available via the frequently asked questions on the website.
